I am interested in how cities organize to address complex civic problems, like the housing crisis. My lab specializes in creating technologies to support creative collaboration, community engagement and collective decision-making — and I believe we can apply these tools and strategies to the housing problem. This is so important because people need a home for the sake of dignity, security, and productivity.

The lack of affordable housing is one of the most complex and consequential problems facing the San Diego region. Everyone deserves dignity and a place to call home. At a time of unprecedented challenges facing society, we need to develop strategies for collective intelligence where we engage diverse perspectives to co-create better, more inclusive outcomes. Our lab creates novel social technologies and investigates the underlying mechanisms that impact how different collectives— from teams, to local communities, to online crowds — address complex problems creatively and collaboratively.
